Question:
Is maternity provisions provided under the Employment Act 1955 applicable to all female employees?

Answer:
Employment Act 1955 provides that the length of maternity leave is a period not less than 60 consecutive days and this provision is applicable to every female employee engaged under a contract of employment irrespective of her wages. Therefore even those female employees who are outside the scope of the Employment Act (who are executives and manager earning more than RM2000.00) are also entitled to the 60 consecutive days of maternity leave.
